Congress for Democratic Change (CDC)

Our HISTORY

The Birth of a Democratic Movement

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) was formed out of the collective aspirations of the Liberian people for democratic renewal, national unity, and accountable governance. Emerging from a long history of misrule, inequality, and exclusion, the CDC was established to lead a new political and socio-economic order grounded in freedom, justice, and equality for all.

The party was founded as a mass-based democratic movement committed to giving voice to the underprivileged, including youths, women, workers, professionals, and marginalized communities. From its inception, the CDC positioned itself as a people-centered organization dedicated to ending corruption, tribalism, and governance systems that exclude the majority.

Growth and National Impact

Over the years, the CDC evolved into a nationally recognized political force, uniting Liberians across ethnic, religious, and social lines. The party’s growth has been driven by grassroots participation, democratic internal structures, and an unwavering commitment to national reconciliation and inclusive development.

The CDC continues to serve as a platform for civic engagement, political education, and leadership development, anchored in the belief that sovereignty and political power reside in the people.
